IT marketing can be very difficult, and when someone involved in generating leads or converting them has a success, they need to be properly appreciated. It’s not just about you, even though the company is yours. Yes, you brought everyone together. Yes, without you there wouldn’t be a company. But without your employees working diligently, you wouldn’t be able to maintain growth past a certain level.
Think of your business like an obligate ram ventilator. If you’re unfamiliar, this is the type of respiration the great white shark uses to pull oxygen from the ocean into itself. It requires continuous motion. If the great white stops moving forward, it dies. Similarly, if your MSP ceases to expand outward, it dies–and quicker than other businesses who may fail to expand.
Several reasons include natural inflation and the collateral effects of what has been called Moore’s Law: an exponential doubling of technological capacity every 18 months or so. Also, there’s competition. Between these four factors, if you just find a niche and tread water, you’re going to sink soon— you won’t be able to breathe. Your employees must perform well, and your business must expand, or it will be just a spark on the breeze.
Implications
What does this mean? Well, you can’t be one of these business owners who attribute all your employees do to yourself. The head leads, but the tail propels; both have an equal part in circumlocution through the waters of business. If you’ve been taking credit, it’s time to change, or your method of propulsion may quit. You need to recognize employee success, and doing so will yield several key advantages:
• Increased productivity
• More job satisfaction
• Increased happiness among employees
• Expanded retention
• Fostering of legitimate loyalty
• Establishment and expansion of your MSP’s culture
Increased Productivity
Someone in IT marketing or sales who receives incentive, commendation, and recognition for their good work is likely going to be more productive. This increases their incentive payout, it gives them increased commendation, and increased recognition. It’s an upward spiral. You’re feeding the propulsion engine of your MSP’s machine.
More Job Satisfaction
It’s more satisfying to make more money, be recognized, and be commended on a regular basis. Accordingly, workers are more satisfied to experience such occupational advantages. You may not achieve perfect satisfaction, but the more you can get, the better. If work becomes a stable place of refuge, eventually it may become a future aim–one way to make this even more likely is to work toward the happiness of your employees.
Increased Happiness Among Employees
If you’re productive and satisfied, you’re more likely to be happy. Other ways to do that can be allowing employees to choose their own schedules where possible and making working conditions as productively comfortable as possible. Provide free coffee in a lavish breakroom that always has a few free snacks, but always has a few machines as well, disposable cutlery, and comfortable seating. Many tech offices are replete with entertaining baubles and even video game stations. Mostly you won’t have downtime, sometimes you will, sometimes employees need to just erase their brain to get back in the game. Provide things like these and you’ll see happy employees eager to stick around longer.
Expanded Retention
Happy, satisfied, and productive employees are more likely to stick around for the long term, and you can measure this by watching your rates of retention after you implement changes of this variety.
Fostering of Legitimate Loyalty
You can’t fake loyalty, and you can’t force it. But you can ease the path into loyalty by making an environment like this. Loyalty to a company pushes workers to go above and beyond, running that extra mile and achieving that additional sale, while working on their own personal lives to properly represent your company.
Establishment and Expansion of Your MSP’s Culture
Employees who love your MSP and stick around will spread that attitude through seasoned, careful leadership, respect, and conscientious guidance. This culture may very well come to permeate your operation, which is desirable.
Recognition Yields Real Results
IT marketing where employees are recognized expands likelihood of profitability. So, recognize your employees and keep your business profitably moving forward through the technology seas.
