“He is the Chosen One. You must see it.” – Qui-Gon
Do you believe that your MSP company is the chosen one to succeed in the galaxy of IT services industry? Your organization may not look or have much, but it has the potential of succeeding in the business if you know how to nurture and build it from the inside.
The Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn believed that Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One of the Jedi prophecy. Now, Anakin was just a slave boy when Jinn found him, but he saw what everyone ignored – an enormous strength in the Force. And so, he decided to train Anakin even against the counsel of the Jedi Order. Comparably, you need to be your own Qui-Gon Jinn to your MSP company. But how? First, believe and be our Padawan for the moment and learn from the following pointers.
Be unorthodox
Qui-Gon was different from the other Jedi. He did not always follow the code or tradition. He researched on his own and he trusted his instincts. In the same way, your company should be innovative. You do not always have to follow what the rest are doing and compete in their level. You can use your resources wisely and think outside the box.
Be an expert of your business
Our Jedi Master was guided by the Force first, not by the Jedi Code. Force ghosts existed because of his profound study of how the Force works. You and the staff should not just do business, you must know it like the back of your hand. Study and learn more about your business. Be your own expert and soon you will discover things that can help your services be set apart from the rest.
Be willing to train
Just like how our hero took Obi-Wan as his apprentice, Qui-Gon was also ready to take Anakin under his wing. He also passed on to Yoda the secrets of eternal life. He was willing to train people regardless of their qualification or position. Your company should also maintain a culture of learning and training. Encourage your employees to get further education and provide extra training or classes where they can enhance their skills or learn new ones. Develop mentorship within the organization and invest in your employees’ potentials.
Know your people
Master Qui-Gon knew the Force was strong with Anakin and he even proved it through a blood test for Midi-chlorians. It is essential that you get to know all of your employees. Know their strengths and areas for improvement and build good relationships with them.
Empower through delegation
When you delegate some tasks to other employees, you give them your trust and an opportunity to learn something new, which could boost their confidence. Also, when you delegate responsibilities to others, you can have more time to focus on more important tasks.
The major lesson here is that it is what is on the inside that truly counts. An MSP company can learn from the Master Jedi that by understanding and believing in your business lie the true path to success. This is how you will beat out the bigger flashy companies that focus more on appearance rather than the customer’s best interests. Hence, build your company from the inside out.
