Drug lords must recruit employees just like an MSP business does and they don’t seem to have any problems! However, there is currently a drought in the employment market for technical talent that’s making it difficult for IT companies to recruit with standard staffing measures.
Is it possible that Crime Bosses have a hiring secret they could share with the tech sector? In fact, I wonder if Scarface could teach MSPs a valuable recruiting lessons that would give them the upper hand in the current hiring drought?

Tony’s Example
In the Movie clip above from Scarface the hero Tony Montana is getting revenge from his former boss for putting sending a brutal hit squad to kill him in a night club. He has killed his former Boss and is the middle of finishing off a crooked cop that worked with the Lopez crew. In all enticement Tony didn’t notice that one of Lopez’s henchmen has been left standing as a potential witness to the murders and his partner ask him, “What about Ernie?” Next, the camera focuses in on Ernie and you can see the sweat pouring off his forehead and then Tony cuts the tension by asking, “You want a Job?” You see Tony was showing his entrepreneurial insight by ‘seeing’ a recruiting opportunity in the middle of his revenge killing spree.
The MSP Business Lesson
IT companies should imitate Tony’s example by looking for recruiting opportunities everywhere. You never know when you might bump into your next super star employee unless you keep your hiring radar turned on. I heard that Everon’s CEO Michael Cooch hired the marketing director of Kutenda while on a skiing trip. Apparently, Michael Cooch shared a ski lift with Kevin Brown and was wearing his recruiting hat at the time. Here are some other out-of-the box recurring ideas for your MSP Business:
• Always be in a recruiting mode
• Poach from IT competitors
• Considering recruiting from other cities nearby
• Hire an Expert Recruiter in the IT Industry
If your MSP Business decides to hire a recruiting firm to end your hiring drought then make sure to work with one that’s inside the IT industry like VAR Staffing. They support the IT community by sponsoring all the tech trade shows and know how to track down and hire technology workers.
The Take Away
Don’t forget that you should always-be-recruiting like Tony Montana and Michael Cooch! No matter whether you’re in the middle of a revenge murder or skiing; MSPs should be on the lookout for their next tech or salesman. If you follow this strategy along with some of our other out-of-the-box recruiting ideas then you will soon end the hiring drought at your IT company!
